Saturday, December 29th 2007 saw the launch of Space Shuttle mission STS-120 to the International Space Station. This mission was originally scheduled for July 2007 but was delayed due to technical problems and then further delayed in preparation for Atlantis' last voyage. During the 15-day mission, Atlantis conducted an unprecedented number of experiments in space and space technologies including a new communication system with Antares Launch Complex, resupply missions to deliver fresh food and water and 2 science investigations dealing with plasma waves and ozone depletion. The shuttle landed at Kennedy Space Center on January 10th 2008 after travelling 3 million miles (4 million km). It was the final mission of Atlantis, the final mission of the Space Shuttle program and American space exploration in general.
